Velvet Goldmine Studio opened in Spring 2011 in the North Laine, the creative heart of Brighton, Sussex.

Our unique studio is available to hire at only £30 per hour and can be used for a wide range of photography and video uses. Unlike other studios, our Studio Hire includes the use of 4 Bowens lights, various modifiers and FREE PARKING! We also have different coloured colorama backgrounds or red velvet finery.

Under the creative management of Award Winning photographer Philip J. Bigg, a mature and skilled practitioner who has made his name as a People Photographer with the enviable ability to both connect with people and capture the essence of character.

Philip’s Commercial Photographic images are regularly used for advertising purposes by print and web based media. Over the past few months alone, Philip has worked with Lumesse, Nice Media and Cognify shooting photography campaigns for Lloyds Bank, Vodafone, Nat West, Network Rail, B&Q, Wragge & Co. and the Crown Prosecution Service.

Philip brings his charismatic, fun, lust for life personality to each shoot producing funky Portraits of individuals, families, pregnancy bumps, actor headshots and model portfolios. Recent Portrait visitors include Brighton based Kate Magic (founder of Raw Living) and marketing consultant Shauna di Bella who wrote – “ALL CREDIT TO YOU. You are good. Even my husband commented!”

Recent hirers include local artist Mary Jane Ansell, a BP Portrait Award finalist and local retro clothing designer’s Get Cutie. Brighton band Beautiful Boy have shot their promotional images, plus Heather Peace and Dizraeli & the Small Gods their latest music videos.

Philip also offers studio lighting tuition to individuals and small workshop groups. A Model Register is available on request.
